We have another New Year. This one will be my 70 th . I remember as a child playing board games with my brothers and sister and banging pots and pans on the front porch to welcome in the New Year. I have lots of great memories of New Years. This New Years I am going to be in Tampa to watch the Wisconsin Badgers play LSU in the Reliaquest Bowl on New Year’s Day. It should be fun. This last year has been a very eventful one that will be remembered in the history books. It has given me a ton to write about. I have been reviewing and reposting some of my post that I have written throughout the year. We had our Governor Ron DeSantis campaigning all around the World months before he declared himself a candidate for President in May. The whole world knew months before so there was no surprise or suspense when he finally did declare. He continued to have his feud with Disney that really kind of backfired on him. Under DeSantis our Educational System has floundered more than it was before D
I have said on Social Media that Gerrymandering is “Voter Suppression”. Its purpose is to give one political party to gain an advantage by drawing up voting districts in various Local, State and National elections that are favorable to them. What gerrymandering does is it silences people’s votes. Both States that I have lived in have been heavily gerrymandered, Wisconsin and Florida. In the case of Wisconsin, they have a Democratic Governor and both the State Assembly and the State Senate are heavily Republican. The only time an American can truly let their voices be heard is at the polls when they vote. Why is gerrymandering so important to the Republican Party? It is all a matter of control. As America becomes more and more diverse the more panicked the Republicans have become, they feel as a party they are losing control.   Gerrymandering actually helps holds us back on solving many of our nation’s problems. The majority of people are in favor of gun control so you would think t
It is that season again. I think that it is a great time of year for not only the Christian World but for the whole World. I am one of those folks that believe that the Holiday Season is for everyone and not just the ones that celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is a time of year that every culture can celebrate and that many do. This time of year has been celebrated throughout time and throughout the world. The Jews and their festival of lights. The Germans had a Yule Festival. Celtic legends connected the solstice with Badler, the Scandinavian sun god who was struck down by a mistletoe arrow. The Romans had their festival of Saturnalia , Romans feasted and gave gifts to the poor. Of course drinking was always closely connected with these festivals. At some point the church began celebrating Christmas this time of year to transform the pagan rituals into a Christian Holiday. The Puritans forbid the celebration of Christmas because of all the pagan origins. To be honest with you no on
Immigration, that has been a very hot topic since 2016 for the Republican Party. Do I think that immigration is a problem in this country? I would say both yes and no. Living in Florida I can’t imagine what life would be like without immigration especially in the tourist industry. After Hurricane Ian I don’t know what life would have been like without all those Spanish speaking immigrants tarping our roofs and doing just about everything needed to help with the cleanup. Do we say thank you to these hard working people? Not enough of us do. Instead many look down on these people that come in search of a better life and are willing to work for it. That was what I always thought was the American Dream. I have seen it written a few times that the American Dream is dead. Do you have any idea what killed the dream? I think it was greed, jealousy and hate.   Trump has been talking about how immigration is poisoning our blood. In Durham, New Hampshire Donald Trump stated that “Undocumented
When, as a nation, did we become less patriotic? I see more flags flying than at any point of my life but they seem to lack the true meaning of what America is. The flag was meant to signify 13 states united to form one country governed by our Constitution. As we expanded, a star was added for every additional state but it still has 13 strips so we will remember what started it all. As a nation we got our strength by our unity forming that one nation. The whole concept was one of a representative government so we all had a voice in our nation. It was a pretty new concept, breaking away from the so called rulers that were supposedly appointed by God, to a form of government appointed by the people. We did away with the ruling class that through their wealth and power suppressed the majority so the majority served the few. The purpose now of the government was to do the will of the people and not the people do the will of the rich ruling class of the government. If we didn’t like what
I am sitting in Wisconsin. I made the trek up north to watch my Grandson play basketball and to watch  my Granddaughter cheer. After living in Florida for the last four years I was not looking forward to the Midwest in December. It was 51 degrees when I got to the Ft Myers airport at 6am and it was 51 degrees in Milwaukee when I landed. Milwaukee’s  high was the same as Ft. Myers low. I was real happy with weather is the 50s in Wisconsin in December but you still have to wear long pants and socks. There was no snow on the ground yet, but it definitely was not shorts and flip flops weather.  We have December tornados in Tennessee and shootings all over the country. Climate change and gun violence are always a couple of biggest news items while being some of the biggest ignored items by the Republican Party. Why would we not want to tackle either of those problems is something that I don’t understand. Our children are dying from gun violence which I would think would be unacceptable in
I have to say right off the bat that I am a huge Football and Basketball fan. I watch College Game Day every Saturday so I can keep up on the state of College Football around the entire country. I also bleed Wisconsin Red. That is the college team that I follow the closest. When they win I am elated and when they lose I am always crushed. I am no different than much of the nation on Saturday. I am so glad that when College Football is winding down that College Basketb all is just starting to ramp up so I can root for my teams and enjoy the distraction that they bring to my life.   Like much of the College Sports World I was interested in which four teams were going to be playing for the National Championship. I knew that Michigan would be in and I knew that Washington would be in. I figured that the SEC champ whether it was Alabama  or  Geo rgia  would get in because of the perception that the SEC is the strongest conference in the country. I wasn’t sure if it would be Texas or Florida
I am great for posting on social media, “If Americans truly wanted to put America first they would never vote for a Republican”. Not only do I think that has a good ring to it but I also believe that it is a true statement. One of the people that often replies to my posts sent a reply “This is why you would vote Republican – because of illegal’s, Ukraine, the Far East and others getting more priority over Americans wants and needs”. This man is always giving me his opinion in a respectful way and his opinion often differs from mine which is ok. If everyone had the same opinion we would never have anything to write about or even talk about. I replied back to him that he had just given me the idea on what I should write about next. I have seen the meme on social media of someone holding a sign that says “Veterans before illegals”. I have always believed that our veterans have been ignored by the talking heads in Washington from both Parties. Every time I see that “Wounded Warriors” c
Trump’s oath of office, his lawyers are saying that Trump never took an oath to support the Constitution. Why would his lawyers say this? The reason is because the Presidential oath of office does not have the word “Support” in it. The Presidential oath uses the words “Preserve, Protect, and Defend” the Constitution. Why would the Presidential oath not use the word support? Could it be that the President is held to a higher standard than just support the Constitution? I have read that is the reason why that the words “Preserve, Protect and Defend” are used is to show the greater responsibility the President has to the Constitution. I think Trump’s lawyers want us to believe that Trump had less of a responsibility to our Constitution because the word “Support” is not in his oath. I think just the opposite; he had a stronger responsibility and failed at that responsibility, badly. Maybe that is because he never read the Constitution of the United States. Trump’s lawyers also say Sect
