  What is with these Republicans? We have DeSantis making war on Mickey Mouse and anyone that disagrees with him about “don’t say gay” and we have Trump asking for the help of Putin and the Russians for dirt on Hunter Biden. Is there a Republican out there that doesn’t want to divide America? Our country may not be more divided than is was at the height of the Vietnam War but it has got to be close. One of the biggest differences with the division in the 60s was that you never felt that there were people that wanted our democracy to fail. There were people that wanted our democracy to do better. Today I just feel like there are too many Americans that have turned their backs on their own democracy and most of those Americans are in the Republican Party. Trump claimed in the early part of his Presidency that he did not collude with the Russians to win the election. In a speech he asked the Russians for help with getting dirt on Hillary Clinton but only to back away for those comments

  What are the Republicans in Florida in favor of? They sure are not pro health. They don’t appear to be pro employment. They don’t appear to be pro minority. They don’t appear to be pro women. They don’t appear to be pro children. They don’t appear to be pro education. They are not pro live and let live. They are not pro environment. They are not pro free speech. They also don’t appear to be pro business. One of the biggest cash cows for the State of Florida is Disney World. Disney World in my opinion helped change Florida from the “retirement state” to the “vacation capital of the United States”. Florida went from the place to escape winter to a year round destination. Disney World is a business that attracts not only people from around the United States but also for around the world.   How did this mess with the Supreme Court start? The man that actually started this mess was good old Mitch McConnell who many affectionately call Moscow Mitch. On February 13th 2016 Antonin Scalia died leaving an opening on the Supreme Court that, by the Constitution was suppose to be filled by the sitting President. That sitting President was Barak Obama. Mitch McConnell held up the appointment of the man the President Obama appointed, Merrick Garland, saying that he did not believe that a new Supreme Court Justice should be appointed during an election year. He said that the people need to have their say. That is nowhere in the Constitution. McConnell just made it up to obstruct then President Obama and the Democratic Party. He introduced party politics like it had never been before in the confirmation of a Supreme Court Justice. He didn’t hold any hearings. Nothing came to a vote.   The war rages in the Ukraine and the war still rages here at home. How did the United States get here? When Reagan was President if you were a Russian sympathizer you would have been run out of Washington and maybe even the country. Yes, I know all about free speech, we had free speech back then too. Just because of free speech we would not have aloud treasonous behavior. Reagan worked hard to unite the country against our common enemies and he worked at maintaining our friendships with our allies. NATO was as important back then as it is now. We knew back then that we were stronger with good friends but for some reason some in the Republican Party has forgotten that. NATO by some has been called obsolete. Having friends when there are still threats in this world is never obsolete. The Ukraine is not the biggest country in the world and really not a threat to anyone. Certainly not a threat to Russia.   November is going to be here before you know it. What happens in November? Just an election that may change the course of our Democracy or if there will still be a democracy. There are two choices as I see it. We can continue to grow as a democracy and be an inspiration to the world or we can continue to spiral downhill to a type of American Apartheid where people with money control the government through the suppression of the majority. Sound harsh doesn’t it, suppression of the majority. I don’t know what else to call it. For about the next eight months I will be writing a lot about the upcoming election and what it is going to mean to the future of our country but I need your help.   The divide in America continues. This divide in my opinion is meant to weaken America not strengthen it. I always ask who benefits from a divided America and I always come up with the same answer. Russia benefits form a divided America. My question is why we vote for people that will make us weaker and our enemies stronger. In 2016 our nation was attacked by a country that wanted to influence our election with the use of misinformation. What were the results of that? Besides some sanctions that were put in place by Obama, not much. Our own intelligence agencies said that it happened but no action was taken by the party that controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House. President Trump stated that he spoke with the head of the Russian government Putin and he said that they didn’t do a thing.   I think of what the Republicans stand for and I am uncertain today. I know what they stood for back in the 70s and the 80s. They talked about smaller government. They were for a strong military. They were for fewer regulations. All those things sounded great back then. The Government was the bad guy and they were holding America back. In a way I feel that they were feeding on the fear many of us had of the government after the Vietnam War. The 70s were not what you would call the best of times for America. First there was run amuck inflation and then Watergate. Next, there was the oil embargo and the lines at the gas stations. We ended the decade with the Iran Crisis that still affects us today. The 70s were not a good time of either political party or our country. Along comes Reagan with his upbeat attitude of the future tell us that the problem isn’t us it is the government.   I read the news every day. Of course the news is dominated by the Russian / Ukraine war. I look at this as the classic bully picking on the little guy. In the movies the bully is always the hated villain. In real life this is not always true. We have people blaming Ukraine for the War. You have people blaming the United States for the war. One of those people has been Tucker Carlson of Fox News or as some people calls it Russian Propaganda News. Is this something that should be upsetting or is this just history repeating itself?   Money, money, and more money. They always say “follow the money” and today it is truer than ever. Money means power. Money makes physically weak people powerful. You have governments and then you have the money behind the governments. Politicians give you the illusion that they are in charge but I always think that the person holding the purse strings is the actual power. For example, when Joe Manchin says “fossil fuels are here to stay” this is something he says because of all the fossil fuel money that comes his way. People know the burning of fossil fuel is a death sentence for our existence on the planet. They say we are killing the planet. That is wrong, what we are doing is killing ourselves. The planet will go on without us when we have made ourselves extinct, yet, Manchin continues to spout about the longevity of fossil fuels so he can continue to “line his pockets”.   I have now witnessed Governor DeSantis bully some High School Students in Tampa, Florida. Our dear Governor was at a High School presentation for a grant to develop education classes on Cyber Security. DeSantis walks into a staged news conference which was a self promoting news conference. He sees students wearing masks and said to the students “You do not have to wear those masks. Please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything. We’ve gotta stop with this Covid theater.” First I will say that these kids are minors. He has no business talking to these children about this medical matter. These children have parents. It is the parent’s job, not DeSantis’s job, to talk to their children about masks and when they should be worn. If I was a parent I would be very pissed off. He had no right as a Governor to talk to anybody else’s child and I am sure if I would talk that way to his children he would tell me to butt out.   The United States has issued blistering reports on China’s Human Rights Violations. They have reported the internment of a million Uyghur that are mostly Muslim. I do think that China has a terrible track record when it comes to Human Rights. I am no expert but I do read and have formed opinions over the years from what I have read and I think that is apparent in all Communistic and Fascist governments.   When in doubt blame Biden. It is raining today, so it must be Biden’s fault. My snow needs to be shoveled why Biden doesn’t fix that? That has been a popular Republican theme. Blame Biden. There are many things that Biden is being blamed for that are not Biden’s fault. The price of gas at the pumps for one. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is another. The crisis at the border, if there really is a crisis. The labor shortage. What I find most interesting and appalling at the same time is that the people doing the blaming have no real solutions. Oh, they talk, but nothing that will solve the real problems. The price of gas has been going up since the end of the Trump Administration. If you search the web you will see that the main culprit is, of course the virus, and supply and demand. Also, you will see that the President has very little control over the price of gas. You can say his energy policies are what are driving up the prices but that in my opinion that would not be true. Bid
