I Could Be Wrong.

  I was watching TV last night and a commercial came on from local business here in Ft. Myers. The commercial was for Plantation Shutters and part of the advertisement was that if you supported Joe Biden and any of his liberal policies they did not want your business. I could not believe that I was seeing, a business, that would want to exclude people that support our President. If a company would have put a disclaimer like that for anyone supporting Trump I am pretty sure the outrage would have ended up with violence. Further, I could not believe that a television station like WINK,   here in Ft. Myers, would agree to air the commercial. You wonder why the country is so divided? I don’t. We may never be united again. Our democracy is literally under attack and businesses like this one are one of the reasons. We had an election and the Country had spoken. Biden won.   My god the sky is falling. President Biden Swore and called a member of Fox News a Son Of A Bitch. We must impeach the guy immediately. A Republican President would never act that way. On January 24 th President Joe Biden called Peter Doocy “A Stupid Son Of A Bitch”. Now Peter Doocy is the son of Fox News anchor Steven Doocy. I will tell you that this was not at a press conference or during an interview. This was a question   that was shouted out from a crowd of reporters that were trying to get a reaction from the President. They heard a reaction that should not have been said, and was insulting,   but it really was not directed   at a reporter to embarrass him or her. He did apologize for it yet, from the reaction of the press it may have been a very slow news day. It was not meant to be heard except that there was a hot mic on so the World heard it.   Voter fraud is in the news a lot in Florida right now. Our dear Governor has proposed a department where all it does is investigate voter fraud. We must have a serious problem with voter fraud in Florida for our Governor to be proposing a 52 man unit with 45 full time investigators. Voter fraud is some serious stuff in the Sunshine State according to DeSantis for him to want to spend 6.6 million dollars investigating it. We must have   the “Democratic Mafia” running around stuffing election drop-off boxes with fraudulent ballots. The Mayor Daley political machine must have moved to Florida from Chicago. They must be combing our cemeteries for eligible voters to register. Is this a real problem?   In Florida a health official was put on leave by Governor DeSantis for suggesting to staff members they get the vaccine. Can you imagine being suspended for just suggesting something that is right? I would think that all health officials would be vaccinated. Their job is to protect the community and if you don’t want to protect the community you shouldn’t be in healthcare. I worked in healthcare on the technical side. I set up laptops that nurses would wheel into patient rooms, computers at nurse’s stations computers in Doctor’s offices, printers and various IT equipment that were used. I know firsthand that healthcare workers are always at risk of catching all kind of diseases and also of spreading all kinds of diseases. The first people that you want to protect are the frontline worker. People in healthcare are the frontline workers.   I keep reading on the news that the Biden administration approval rating is in the toilet. I see right now that it is tracking anywhere between 40 and 45 percent approval rating. He had a high at one point of 57 percent but it has been declining. During his time in office his administration has helped pass one of the biggest infrastructure plans in a long time, maybe going as far back as the Eisenhower administration. Our infrastructure had been badly ignored for the last 40 years so something really needed to be done. Past administrations like the Trump administration talked about infrastructure but did nothing. It got done under Biden. After such sweeping legislation you would think that his popularity would sky rocket. People for both parties in every state will benefit from it. Most of the numbers have looked good from the stock market to employment. Wages are up but so in inflation. To read what a lot of the press is saying you would think that the sky is falling.  As I am writing this it is Martin Luther King Day. It is also the day that most of the racists in our political system tell us how much they admire Martin Luther King and his message. The more I read the more I realize that race is in every part of our lives. When I was younger I thought what a great world we were building where the meaning of Martin Luther King’s word would be the norm, not the exception. I heard his words and many of us no matter what color we were believed in those words. I went to integrated schools and had black friends growing up. We even had a Black Home Coming Queen my senior year in 1971 even though the school was over 80% white. She won not because she was black. She won because she was both talented and beautiful. I sang with her in choir and know how really talented and deserving she was. Growing up in the 50s and 60s in America race was in the forefront of just about everything.   Since the Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation we have had people trying to figure out how to suppress minorities mainly Black people but other minorities as well. It is almost 160 years later and from what I see things have not changed very much. White people are still trying to figure out how to suppress the Black vote. Right now it looks like the bigots are winning. I do not know a single person that admits that they are a bigot but I do know people that are. It takes a lot of soul searching to try and change. Slavery is not dead in America. It has just taken on a new form. That form is called the minimum wage. You keep wages low for the people that actually do the work while the people with money just keep making more money. We have become what we fought a revolution against. We now have a system of nobility and serfs. We have our “lords” that want to rule over the masses just because they are rich. They use their money and their influence to buy politicians.   How do we start healing America? You would think that telling the truth would be a good start but telling the truth does not appear to be working. I have written that in too many cases it is just too easy to believe the lie. The lying and misinformation about Covid has killed people. Too many people have died that could have been saved just by more leaders embracing a simple face mask. They lied saying that they don’t work when they do help.   Jim Jordan has been in the news about not cooperating with the Jan 6 th commission. That should not be surprising to anyone that follows the news. What I find surprising is that Jim Jordan is in Congress at all. Six of his former wrestlers had come forward to say while they were on his wrestling team he was an assistant coach and they were sexually molested by the team doctor. This is a similar story that happened at Michigan State and at Penn State. The Michigan Sates sexual abuse was a huge scandal that made every news publication in the world. So was the Penn State scandal. Careers were ruined because of these scandals. Joe Paterno will be linked forever with Jerry Sandusky and the Jerry Sandusky Child abuse scandal. Joe Paterno did not participate in the abuse and he did not try to cover up the abuse. He did the bare minimum that was required for his job.   Our country is moving forward it appears but maybe not as far forward as to make me feel that we are safe from the forces that would bring our Republic to its knees. The lies are still out there and there are people still believing those lies. This is scary stuff that will be studied and written about by historians for centuries to come. How did we get here? How did things fall apart so fast? Did taxing of the rich get us here? Taxes for the rich are the lowest they have been in my lifetime. Is it because of Citizens United? Much of the lying and misinformation that we have been getting started to happen after the Supreme Court opened that flood gate. The result of Citizens United is that it gave the liars a louder voice and has helped silence the truth. Corporations are not people and their goal is not the same as an ordinary citizen.   One year ago a group of domestic terrorist stormed our Capitol. It was the first time our Capitol had been breached since the War of 1812. Then the British wanted to destroy our democracy and again enslave the colonies. A year ago a group wanted to put a non-elected individual in the White House destroying our democracy. They say the election was stolen. If it was stolen it was stolen by the voters. People voted like they never had before which is great but instead of being celebrated the Republicans scream fraud and many vote not to certify the election. People voted by mail and people voted in person and as long as they are a registered voter it should not matter how they vote. What should matter is that their voice is being heard.   Have you ever noticed the people that deny climate change and the people that work at voter suppression are the same people. Are these two issues connected? You would think at first glance no. Environmental problems and voter suppression seem to be two very separate issues but are they really? If you really think about it as the public has become more and more aware of climate change and what it is already doing to our country and our world voter suppression has grown. Is it just a coincidence or is there more to it. Climate change has been talked about pretty much all my life. It has been called saving the Environment, Acid rain, Global Warming, to Climate Change. They all talked about the same issue and that issue is what man is doing to our planet. Have we changed enough of our habits to make a real difference? When history writes about the events of January 6 th no one who   participated, with the lies leading up to it, will be spared and they shouldn’t be. It was a day when our American Flag was turned into a symbol of hate and was used to beat police defending our Capital. Everyone should have been outraged by that but too many weren’t.
