I for one am sorry that Governor Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the Presidential race. Why you might ask knowing that I would think that he would make a terrible President? While he was running around the country, trying to promote his disastrous anti-wake agenda, Florida was getting at least a break from his bullying ways. With his chance of becoming President and basically ridiculed by much of the rest of the country I feared he would come back here with his anti-woke agenda and make it even stronger to try and show the rest of the country that he is right. I fear for our State. The “Free State of Florida” is not as free as when DeSantis took office. I think that the next couple of years are going to be hard ones. Our real issues like the highest inflation in the Country and our escalating insurance costs are not being addressed by his anti-woke agenda.   Instead, this is what is being addressed. As much of the nation knows that much of Florida is a State that is in love with di
Sometimes you just have to vent. Today may just be one of those days. I was reading how the Republicans in the Florida State Legislature introduced a bill to give Donald Trump five million dollars of Florida’s taxpayers’ money to pay for his defense. DeSantis, our dear Governor, who has been insulted over and over again by Trump but was so big of a coward he was afraid not to endorse Trump, at least had the guts to say he would veto it. Even though it won’t become law it shows the problem with the Republican Party and the Florida Republicans in general. Florida is a State that many of its citizens are suffering from the fury of Mother Nature but, they want to give a billionaire money for his court problems?   I will repeat, our Republican Legislature wanted to give five million dollars to a billionaire for his legal problems. We have a ton of problems here in Florida and none of them have to do with Trump’s legal problems. I would call this putting the needs of the one before the nee
Our courtrooms should be about the law. It is in our courtrooms that a person should be tried and not in the paper or on TV talk shows. The courtroom for public opinion is not a real courtroom and many times is just being fed smokescreens and lies that are meant to hide the truth. Public Opinion may count at the ballot box but it doesn’t count in a court of law. Facts that are presented to a jury are what is important. What the public thinks is not fact. We have always had our Court of Public Opinion but with today’s “Social Media” it is just more amplified. It is what makes it harder to search for the truth if that is what you are searching for. Too many times people want to spread the lies in hopes that they don’t search for the truth. Never before in my lifetime have I seen defendants like Trump, Giuliani, and others using their social media accounts thinking that they can influence the courts. It is one thing to use social media to try and influence the public but it is another
Yesterday my wife and I took a drive down Ft. Myers Beach to see how it was doing. We try to check on how the beach community is recovering.   It has been just about 16 months since Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on the whole area but one of the worst hit was Ft. Myers Beach. Most mornings the local news stations carry stories about the positive things that have happened in the area during its recovery. The New Margaretville is now open and taking bookings which is positive.   The Pink Shell is open and the Lanai Kai’s beach bar is open from 10 to 5. Yes, there is progress but most of the Island looks like a war zone. All the recovery stories are great but what is lost is all the people that recovery is still a long ways off or will never happen. We had the Red Coconut RV Park that sold for 54 million dollar. That is a huge profit for the owners that bought it for 700,000 dollars back in the 1980s. The stories that you don’t hear about are the people that occupied that park for years wi
We have a Crisis in America. If fact the entire world may be in crisis. Everyone has heard things like the “Oil Crisis”, the “Opium Crisis”, the Healthcare Crisis, the “Climate Crisis” and the “Border Crisis” just to name a few of the Crises in the world. We have a Crisis that is much bigger a problem than all of the other Crises combined. What we have is truly one huge “Moral Crisis”. That is right. In fact if we could solve the “Moral Crisis” maybe all the other Crises would go away. First we need to decide what “immoral” means. I think of it as something that we do that harms the people around us and groups of people we don’t care about. When you look at it that way then the “Climate Crisis” is as much about morals as it is about economics. We keep pumping all this stuff into the air that is literally killing people. We have air quality alerts telling people that have asthma or in reality any pulmonary disease to stay indoors because the air they are breathing could kill the
Law and order! Can you have law and order if people are above the law? That is the question that I think about a lot. A better way to put it, can the people that are suppose to enforce the law be above the law? Whether it is the local cop down the street or the President of the United States is our system one that was created to have people above the law. In my mind I always come up with the same answers. No! John Adams was a man that believed in the law. When the first shots were fired in Boston by a group of soldiers protecting themselves from the mob it was John Adams that defended the soldiers. Why would he defend people that he looked upon as suppressors? It is because he believed in the law. When you read about Adams you see he remembered the lessons from having a Classical Education. Things were very important to him such as Separation of Powers, Freedom of the Press, Trial by Jury and Freedom of Worship. You can tell that what he wanted was the “Rule of the Law”, that being a
Freedom! That is a word that you hear a lot in the United States. “Freedom” and “Liberty” are the two words what made America different from the rest of the world when we were founded. “Freedom” from tyranny, “Liberties” that were outlined in our Bill of Rights were what we fought for. Do the words like Freedom and Liberty have the same meaning today that they did in 1776? In some cases I think that it means just the opposite. We fought for a representative government. When we started to rebel from British rule what we wanted was in fact a seat at the table. If they would have given us representation and a voice in Parliament our Revolution probably would have not happened when it did. So I am going to say that having a voice in government is a freedom that was very important to our Forefathers. They were not opposed to taxation. What they were opposed to was taxation without representation. In fact “No taxation without Representation” was one of the slogans of the Revolutionists of
Draining   the swamp. Foreign countries spent almost 8 million dollars at Trump owned businesses while he was President. To me, 8 million dollars does not seem like a lot of money. What is upsetting to me is   the Republican Party as a whole and especially since Trump went after Hunter Biden, a private citizen, for much less. Did Hunter Biden try a capitalize on the fact that his Father was Vice President? I am sure he did. Was it more than the Trump children tried to capitalize on the fact that their Father was President? It isn’t even close. Just the fact is the Trump family continued to do business with foreign counties while he was in office. I am sure it was much higher than just 8 million dollars. It   shows the conflicts and the potential corruption that was in my opinion the Trump Administration. That conflict started even before he was President. Trump had every intention of making money off the Presidency, in my opinion. Why do you think that he was so willing to donate his
Well, the New Year started out with a bang. On “Dick Clark’s Rockin New Years” with Ryan Seacrest, the music   group Green Day changed the lyrics to American Idiot , a song written and recorded to protest Bush during the post 9/11 years, to speak out against the MAGA agenda. In the song there is a line that stated that “I don’t want no redneck agenda” which they changed to “I’m no part of the MAGA agenda”. I am seeing on X, formally called Twitter, because of that change they have “ruined their careers”. When I read that I wanted to laugh. Green Day takes a song that was written to protest George Bush, changes a couple of words, and he turns it into a song to protest Trump. I think that is great, he took a protest song and turned it into a protest song. As Gomer Pyle would say “Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!   What I find really comical is the fake outrage from everyone on the “Right”. The people that are so outraged by Green Day now, didn’t listen to Green Day anyway. The song was al
