Covid still going strong
Here it is now December 2020 and the virus is worse than ever and I am reading that Dr. Faci is stating there will even get a bigger bump because of Thanksgiving. We are now approaching 300,000 deaths. That is more deaths than all the US Soldiers in World War 2 and though there is an end in sight it is still far away. I fear that this time next year we will still be counting covid deaths. Not at the pace that is happening now but they will still be happening. Before this is done I think that the number will be close to a half a million. I know many are going to say a lot of those deaths people had pre- existing conditions. Well, I have a pre- existing condition. It is called heart disease. I plan on living another 15 to 20 years.
I have heard people say that they just don’t know what to believe. I will agree that there is an overload of information out there and some of it is just plain false. We do have Infection Control experts and we do have the CDC. Those are good places to start if you want good information. I would much rather get my information from the CDC than the My Pillow guy. You must also remember that when our knowledge of the virus grows so will the way we have to fight it. Just because they said last February that wearing a mask would not help much doesn’t mean that now they say wear a mask just shows they don’t know what they are doing. What it shows is that their knowledge of the virus has grown and that we need to adjust. I don’t think they knew if it was airborne in the beginning. We know it is now. Now the vaccine is coming and I will tell you that I am going to get it and I don’t care what the My Pillow guy says.
The one thing that disappoints me is the help we are getting
from our government. More needs to be done to help some of our small
businesses. The Mom and Pop restaurants and bars for one. They are one of the
most dangerous places to go during this pandemic but they are also some of the
most vulnerable for failure because of this pandemic. They need more help. They are fighting for
their livelihood and this pandemic is not their fault. It is not the government’s
fault either but in times of need government needs to step up to the plate and
help these guys. We always seem to find a way to help the big guys but ignore
the little guy. Just because they do not
give the big campaign donations does not mean they are less deserving. Now this may be more of a failure on the state
and local level. Our governor seems to think that just keep everything open and
let the chips fall where they may is not what I call leadership. Smart people
will still stay away from a situation that may get them sick. I know I do. We
have had the power to save people’s lives and have failed because of money. Heading
into the Christmas Season and wanting profit more than protecting people’s
lives is not very Christ like.
