I was really glad that Trump was not reelected but all the lying and fear from the Republicans after the election has sent the country into kind of a tail spin. To maintain power they have tried to suppress voting because they are afraid of losing that power. The racism that has been around since the founding of our country is still there and just won’t go away. They see an equal minority as suppression of them. They see an equal woman as suppression of them. They see my rejection of their religious beliefs as a suppression of their religion. They work very hard at trying to maintain power and are getting help from people that want to see our democracy fail. In fact, I believe that some Republicans would rather see our democracy fail than have a truly equal country. That is why it is so important that people like me continue to write and continue to resist. Maybe there really is a higher force driving us on.

One question that always eats at me is why do a lot of Republicans want to see our democracy fail? Now, I am pretty sure that my Republican friends would say that I am wrong. They would tell me that it is the Democrats that want to destroy our democracy and I have a real problem with that. I have never once heard a Democrat call the Republican Party the enemy of the people. I have heard it many times that the Democrats are the enemy of the people. I am not a Democrat but I am part of the people and I find that talk real scary. Over half the country is the enemy of the people? Don’t you find that scary? If you don’t you should. I know that people think that this Hitler stuff is a little over the top but if you look at history is it really? Hitler demonized a whole race as the enemies of the people and he killed millions.

A two party system is important for our democracy to work. It always has been. I am beginning to think that that second party can no longer be the Republican Party. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, the birthplace for the Republican Party. I grew up with Republican principles from the Eisenhower administration. The Republican Party was very instrumental in the civil rights movement. The Republican Party was very instrumental in the expansion of our infrastructure. The Republicans that I grew up with were very progressive. What in the hell has happened? This party now is not the Republican Party. The Republican Party is now the party of Trump just like the Nazi party was the party of Hitler. Loyalty to one man and not the country. There are just too many similarities to ignore.

Being born into a Republican household I will always remember the first Democrat that I voted for. I will also remember the reason why I voted for that Democrat. I voted for that Democrat not because I embraced the principles of the party. I voted for that Democrat because I could see the Republicans moving away from the principles of America and of their own party. Their contract with America was not a contract with all of America but just with White Conservative America and I still believed that America should be the country for all Americans. I did not move farther left. The party moved farther right and left me behind. I could not support the religious bigotry that they were bringing to the base of the Republican Party. I could not support that and will not support that. Racism will be the thing that destroys America and the Republicans are the tool being used to do that. Sad. I do not think that they can be repaired.

America has a real problem defining freedom and the Republicans take advantage of that. Freedom most of the time is not found with a barrel of a gun. A lot of the time that gun is just a tool of suppression and terrorism. Freedom is usually found in the documents that people write. Freedom is found when we can move beyond that gun barrel and embrace everyone as equals. Freedom is found when you help your neighbor instead of suppressing them. If someone ever took away my gun that act would upset me but would it really affect my freedom? If someone suppresses my words and acts that is when real freedom is taken away. I do not write for guns. I write for freedom that everyone can embrace and really feel that freedom.

There’s a simple way to judge a country: look at whose lives it protects, and whose lives it’s willing to forget. For years now, we’ve heard the phrase “All Lives Matter.” It sounds fair. It sounds equal. It sounds like common sense. But a country doesn’t reveal its values through slogans. It reveals them through actions, through the lives it defends, the lives it ignores, and the lives it quietly pushes out of sight. And lately, America has been doing a whole lot of looking away. When Black Americans said they were being killed during traffic stops and routine encounters, the response from many leaders wasn’t concern; it was irritation. Instead of saying, “Let’s fix the problem so fewer people die,” we heard “Blue Lives Matter,” “Stop resisting,” and “BLM is a terrorist group.” A man died in a chokehold on camera. We all saw, from the beginning to the end. It was like a modern-day lynching. Millions marched peacefully. The answer from those in power was “law and order,” and “...
On Saturday, I was looking at Facebook and a person I was friends with, in fact, someone I went to High School with, posted something I knew was wrong. The post claimed that four lawmakers in Colorado decided jail time shouldn’t be mandatory for people who committed sexual assault of children. She claimed they were pedophile protectors. I opened up Perplexity and asked about the situation, and this is the reply I got back: You’re referring to a recent controversy in Colorado over a proposed bill that would change sentencing rules for certain sex crimes. Here are the verified facts to clarify what’s actually happening: • In early 2026, the Colorado House Judiciary Committee held a vote on a sentencing reform bill that aimed to give judges more discretion in certain felony cases. • Some lawmakers voted against an amendment that would have made mandatory prison sentences apply to all sex crimes, including child sexual assault, preferring instead to let judges determine sentences...
Dove or hawk? Donald Trump ran for President promising to end “endless wars”, avoid new ones, and put American families first. He cast himself as an outsider who would bring peace – the only candidate who wouldn’t drag America into another conflict. The message worked because let's face it, after so many years in Iraq and Afghanistan, America was tired of war. As a country, we were all tired of War. The country wanted stability, not another generation of men and women sent into danger. But once in office, he governed very differently. He governed like a Hawk, quick to threaten, quick to escalate, and willing to use both bombs and tariffs as weapons. What was missing wasn’t just consistency. It was an honor: the sense of responsibility and restraint that should come with the power to risk other people's sons and daughters. This isn’t about ideology. It's about whether someone who promised peace, but repeatedly chooses confrontation, can still claim to be a “dove”. A core...
