Yesterday I was on Twitter and I replied to Charlie Crist post about education. Of course I got back a few replies back about how I supported the gay agenda in our schools and garbage like that. Not a big deal because you know the trolls are going to be coming out because they only know how to insult. One reply caught my attention. A woman posted that I was in favor of the schools indoctrinating our children. I looked up this woman’s profile and the first picture I see is two naked women groping each other in a bath tub. Needless to say that was not I expected. My comment back to the woman was “Do see what you are selling?” Her comment back to me was that she only sells to consenting adults. Now, the minimum age for Twitter is 13 years old.  So, any 13 year old with a Twitter account may be able to see that same picture that I saw. So in reality I have an online pornographer yelling at me that I want our children indoctrinated and she is using a platform that any 13 year old can use. The world just gets stranger and stranger. By the way this is the kind of voter that is attracted to DeSantis.

When it comes to education I have an advantage to many people. My mother was a 1^st Grade Teacher in an inner city school for 22 years and my wife is a retired elementary School Teacher of 27 years in both Wisconsin and in Florida. In fact my wife has her Doctorate in Education. She is a great teacher that has continued to go to school to improve her craft. She was in the classroom as a teacher most of her years but she was also an instructional coach assisting other teachers to become better teachers. When I have a question about education I ask her. Of course she does not know what goes on in every school systems but just the ones she’s worked in. I asked her is there is a course that teaches Critical Race Theory in any of the school districts that she has worked in and she stated “no of course not”. I asked her was there any subject matter that would be considering promoting a gay agenda in any of the classrooms that she has been in. She said “no”. She stated the teachers today are too busy trying to meet today’s educational standards. I asked her did her students ever talked about being gay and she said mostly on a bullying context as a way to insult and try and bully another student. I asked her if they taught tolerance and she said only from a non-bullying standpoint. So I don’t know what agenda the online pornographer was talking about but there is no course called being gay 101. There is no course called Critical Race 101. These arguments are just to get votes and yes they are ruining our educational system. Our educational system is supposed to be preparing our children for the real world that is out there and it is failing. It is failing not because of teachers. It is failing because we have a system that does not want children to learn and to think about the problems that they will face every day in the real world. They don’t have time to because they are too busy trying to meet today’s educational standards. Educational standards are necessary but so are just plain educating our children to the everyday world. The finish line is not the same for every child.

You can’t hide from these children what is out in the real world. Even if you home school your children they are going to have to eventually face the real world. At times that real world can be very confusing. At times that real world can be very scary. At times that real world can be very cruel. At times that real world can be very violent. You cannot blame these things on our educational system. They didn’t create them and they do not have the training or the tools to fix them even if they could be fixed. Children don’t learn this stuff in school. Look around you, sex is everywhere. Violence is everywhere. Bullying is everywhere. Just turn on the TV and watch the commercials. This is not a new thing. The Marlboro man and the sexy lady smoking Salem cigarettes to the Brylcreem “a little dab will do ya” commercials.  Sex has been part of advertising for generations, and it has only gotten worse. Kids even see commercials for that little blue pill.  We don’t even have to talk about what they see in the sitcoms and the movies. Children now see more and more commercials about an alternate lifestyle. They hear a priest talking about the evils of gay sex and what do you think that kid may research on the internet. Where it is probably the safest for these kids is actually in the schools and that is what the Governor attacks. Society and our Governor has demonized entire classes and races of people and that demonizing of groups and races will filter more and more into our schools if we are not careful. Bullying and terrorizing students that are different will become more and more common. We have a teacher shortage and unqualified people are going into the classroom. If you want to know who helped create this crisis look no farther than DeSantis.

Creating a school curriculum to gain a political advantage is just going to hurt our educational system more than it already is. If you look at our educational rankings around the world you will see that we are falling farther behind. Using schools for politics is not going to solve that, in fact, it will make it worse. Chasing teachers out of the classroom creating a shortage just makes it worse. DeSantis does not want educators in our classrooms. What he wants are baby sitters. Privatizing our schools will not solve the problem. It will only filter more of your tax money into the private sector that you have no control over. When the schools fail to make standards he has an automatic fall guy. The school system itself. He will be like Pontius Pilate bearing no responsibility.
