Bullying and guns. That is one scary combination. That is what I fear for Florida. Our Governor is definitely a bully. I don’t think he cares one bit that he could hurt the entire State of Florida. Disney World makes up a whopping 20 percent of the Florida Economy, I think. That is a huge chunk of change they bring to this state, whereas, most states would love to have them. I bet even Texas. I always ask myself the question “why is he messing with a company that is so good for Florida?” The only answer I can figure out is that he wants to show the rest of the nation what a tough guy he is. I think I would rather have a smart guy but that’s just me. For DeSantis it is all about wanting to be President. I don’t know if it is a good look taking on a cartoon mouse but his advisors must think so.
A business like Disney is a very diverse business with many different divisions that caters to many segments of not only American Society but also of the World. Last time I was at Disney I heard more people speaking a language other than English than actually English. That is great for not only Disney but also the entire State of Florida. People flocking here from around the world to spend their money. Tourism is the number one industry in Florida with Disney World being the largest of all the tourist destinations. Because it is a very diverse business catering to a very diverse world their employees need to be trained for that diversity. No matter where a person is from or what they are they are welcome at Disney World and I think that is the message they want to project and have to project to be successful. They have to train their staff on how to handle that diversity that they cater too. It is a great business model that many corporations emulate. They have turned Florida from a winter destination into a year round Family Vacation Destination. They defied DeSantis with that diversity training. They defied DeSantis in their attitudes on Gays. Guess what? They should have. As I have written before their business depends on diversity. Their image is one of welcome. Because Tourism is the number one industry in the whole State of Florida I would think the entire state would want that image of welcoming everyone. That is not the image that the State of Florida is projecting right now to the world. They are projecting a image of hate and bigotry.
DeSantis is now threatening to build a prison right next to Disney. Not only is he threatening the Disney Business but also Sea World and Universal. Orlando is one of the tourism hubs of the United States if not the world and it isn’t only because of Disney. Disney led, but others saw a good thing and followed. I think that DeSantis is showing so much anger that it has spread too much of the state. It definitely has spread to the Republican Party. That is why I find the gun thing so scary. Anger and guns. What could be a worse combination. I don’t know if it is the anger that is the scariest or the fear that the anger produces. Fear of Blacks, fear of Gays, fear of Transgender people, fear of Women, fear of diversity, fear of education and fear of the truth. He spreads fear of things that will not harm anyone one bit. Now you throw guns into the equation and what you have is a disaster in the making. I am just waiting for someone to show up at Disney Springs with an AR15 wearing a white hood and robe thinking that he is doing DeSantis’s work. Florida is projecting an image of bulling, oppression, with threats of violence.
Would it ruin Disney if they just shut down and left Florida? I think that in the short term it would hurt their bottom line but not in the long term. Disney Parks, and that includes Disney Land, make up less that 25 percent of their profits. There are other parts of the Disney Empire that make as much and in the case of their movies it is much more, almost twice as much, as all the parks combined. They would have the money, the talent and the vision to invest and take the Disney Corporation in other directions. They have always been a trendsetter in the entertainment business and I don’t seeing that changing in the foreseeable future. The people that will be holding the bag would be us Floridians. They are our biggest employer. They represent 20 percent of all Tourism in the State of Florida. There is not another business that will want to come in and take their place. Especially with a Governor that wants to be a bully and tell them how to run their own business.
DeSantis seems to hide what he is doing and the problems that Florida is happening right now. He is already running around the nation campaigning for President but calling it a book tour. He is still adjusting the Covid numbers to make himself look better, which in my opinion is already a lie. When it comes to the environmental problems in Florida he just seems to ignore them. He has been avoiding the flooding in the Ft Lauderdale area. With all the problems with insurance here in the Greater Ft. Myers area you don’t seem to hear a peep out of him. Because of a shortage of low income housing finding workers in South West Florida will become a bigger problem than what it already is. When we need a person that has a vision for the future he shows us he has no vision at all. Red tide has not totally gone away and I am hearing that they are going to dump more water from Lake Okeechobee into the Gulf of Mexico. That has the making of an ecological disaster like we had just 3 years ago. We have the making of a long hot miserable summer in Florida. People’s lives have been turned upside down but he would rather pick a fight with Mickey Mouse.
Tourism is the number one industry and agriculture is the number two industry. Both are dependant of the weather. Both are dependent on the environment. Climate change and pollution will have lasting effects on Florida more than it already has. DeSantis is not addressing the problems that Florida is having now and will have in the future. He just wants to be President. He may have a major problem there. I have read that he already has billionaires stating DeSantis is just too extreme for them. I have to ask them “Are you just noticing now?”
All You say is.........TRUE!
