Climate change is real. Global Warming is real. Whatever you want to call it I just say that it is real. We have recorded the single hottest day in recorded history. I was surprised to know that heat deaths outnumber the total number of deaths from hurricanes and floods combined according to an article I was reading on Yahoo News. More and more scientists seem to be saying this extreme heat is going to be the norm. Most heat deaths can be preventable but as the temperature goes up so will the number of heat related deaths. Numbers don’t lie. It should be impossible for the Climate Change deniers to claim that our extreme temperatures are a hoax but still too many will claim just that. The big debate of course is this man made? I am no scientist so I cannot give you a scientific answer. I can only give you an answer that my common sense tells me should be true.
In the news two days ago was the fact that we had just had the hottest day in recorded history. It may be the most single most important news story that we had by far. Even though it was reported I will say that it was still very under reported. This should be a bigger story than what it is but because it doesn’t sell it will continue to go under reported. What is the major story instead? Cocaine found in a visitors section in the White House. Now anyone being totally honest with themselves, and the world knows, that this cocaine has absolutely nothing to do with the Biden administration or even Hunter Biden. Whether a visitor left it by mistake or it was planted to embarrass the Biden administration is important to know because it just damages the country more and gives the so called conservative news outlets another fake story to rile up the nation. They just divide the nation and weaken it more. The real story that affects all of us more is that the planet is getting hotter. Not only does it affect us now but it will continue to affect the country and the world for generations to come. That is the major story and that is where the news media is failing and failing badly.
Rising temperatures just mean more ice melt which in turn means rising seas. Those two things will go hand in hand and those two things will affect a large portion of the world’s population because of the number of people that live along the coasts. Depending on which study that I look at states like the State of Florida will be in serious trouble in my grandchildren’s lifetime. When Ian hit my area last September the storm surge came all the way into my garage. I was one of the lucky ones. Areas all around me were devastated. Now you add just another foot of water and now you are into my home. Add another two feet of water and now we are talking major damage. Major changes in climate is real and it is something that we can’t just pass along to the next generation.
One problem with the rising seas is the fact that it happens slowly over time and we as a people love to procrastinate, not all of us but an awful lot of us. If it is not affecting us now then it isn’t a problem. It is affecting us now but it is just affecting some of us more than others and in different ways. Trump is a climate change denier but I think that in his son Baron’s lifetime, his home on Mar-a –Largo, will be underwater as will much of the State of Florida. When I see Governor DeSantis I will always see that man walking around with his white boots trying to look Presidential. Ron DeSantis says that climate change has been politicized? I agree with him on that because it always take political action to change anything in this country. The problem is that politicians don’t want anything to happen so they always condemn the other side for wanting to make an issue out of it. They don’t want to piss off the people that contribute to their campaigns. Those people pay that money so they can affect policies and some of those policies are climate policies. DeSantis talks about a private sector solution. I hate to say this but it is the private sector that has caused this. In a way Climate Change has not been politicized, what has been politicized is what not to do about it.
In reality, it is about the science. It is hard to grasp how scientists come up with some of their conclusions because let’s face it; some of them are rather complicated. How do they measure the rising seas? It looks the same to me every time I look at it. Science is asking us to trust them on something I can’t really see and measure ourselves. They say the planet is warming but it was the winter vortex that chased me out of Wisconsin and move to Florida so some will say that they just can’t see it. You have to sometimes trust science with things that we can’t see and measure ourselves. Weather scientists are looking at the whole planet and not just mine or your neighborhood. They have charts and graphs that show how they come to their conclusions but many of us would just rather just listen to the politicians argue and pick the side that is most convenient for our own existence.
Many of the people out there are also very religious and talk about all of this is part of God’s plan. I have even read that people say that God will save us from climate change. I have even heard that we are at the end of days so we can do as we want because the end is near. I, as usual, have a different take on it. I think that if there really is a God that he would want us to follow the science. Most people think that the laws that God gave us Moses brought down from Mt. Sinai. I don’t know if that story is real or not but what is real is if God did create any laws it was the laws of Physics. Now I am no physicist but I do remember something about it. For every action there is a reaction. What is the reaction for all the garbage that we are dumping into the atmosphere? Could climate change be part of the reaction? If you think about it, it does really make sense. Remember by the laws of Physics it can’t be just nothing. What is the reaction to all the garbage that we are dumping into our water? By the laws of Physics there has to be something. That is where the science comes in. We need science more than we need politicians that are paid to dispute that science.
