I am exhausted. Do you know what I find exhausting is that we seem to have political campaigning going 365 days a year every year. We have an election cycle end only to have another one begin the very next day. The 2024 Presidential election is some 15 months away and we are already into fierce campaigning for President. In fact, we have had multiple Republicans and one Democrat, Kennedy that has already been campaigning for many months. By the time the election actually comes there will be no real relief because the next election season will start the very next day. The debates have stated already. This is too much for the country to bear and it just creates too much division.
A lot of the debate was not what I would call tackling any real issues. We are in a terrible Heat Advisory over much on the nation. The smoke from the Canadian Wild fires have choked much of the nation. We just had a Tropical Storm hit Southern California for the first time since 1939. Southwestern Florida isn’t even close to recover from Hurricane Ian. One question was asked about Climate Change. Ramaswamy called it a hoax but it really didn’t garner much attention from any of the candidates. Sad, this is probably the number one issue facing the entire world and it is just brushed aside or called a hoax. Our denial of the science of Climate Change puts at odds with most of the rest of the world that is also suffering the effects of climate change. I just read an article by the Daytona Beach News on how Florida is going to be affected by rising waters in just the next 30 years. The water will rise between 10 to 12 inches in that time and the rising water is accelerating. It is possible by 2100 that the water levels have raised 6 or 7 feet. The Florida Keys run between 3.17 feet and just under 5 feet above sea level. The elevation of Cape Coral, one of the fastest-growing cities in the entire country averages around 3 feet above sea level. DeSantis is the Governor of Florida and he doesn’t want to talk about climate change even though it is affecting us now. Vivek Ramaswamy made the claim that “The reality is more people are dying of bad climate change policies than they are of actual climate change”. Climate change is a worldwide issue that is killing more 2 million people a year according to the United Nations. Our Climate Change policies have not caused that. Climate change is real and our lack of inactivity, by not only us but, the entire world is what is causing it. Most of the deaths from climate change happen in Asia where we don’t dictate policy. I just get tired of Republicans lying about climate change as they line their pockets from bribes by the fossil fuel companies.
Of course they will talk about the economy. They will say that the economy is all Biden’s fault. If you look how the rest of the world’s economy is doing Biden’s economy may not be that bad of a thing for him to run on. I look at the inflation rates around the world we look like we are one of the lowest. In the Northern Hemisphere we have the lowest inflation at 3.2percent. Canada has 4.3 percent and Mexico has 4.8 percent. Worldwide the United Kingdom is at 6.8 percent, Germany is at 6.2 percent, France is at 4.3 percent and Italy is at 5.9 percent. Much of the world has higher inflation than we do. Did Biden cause that too? The biggest culprits to our inflation issue I think has been the pandemic and Covid. The pandemic created much of the supply chain issues not only for us but for the entire would which made goods harder to find which drove up prices. Labor shortages contribute to inflation also because it drives up worker’s pay or if you don’t have the people to work the farms our produce gets more expensive. I think is one of the reasons Florida has the highest inflation in the country. DeSantis has created a labor shortage and Climate Change is killing Florida. Climate change too will drive up inflation because storms and drought that destroy crops. As weather gets more extreme our food prices will climb. In the future I believe that Climate Change is going to touch every aspect of American’s lives in very negative ways and we have to stop ignoring it and start preparing for it.
DeSantis bragged about eliminating Critical Race Theory taught in our Florida Schools. The problem with that claim is the fact that Critical Race Theory was never taught in the public schools and that is a fact. What he did do was make it so Black History basically isn’t taught at all in the public schools. You can’t even mention that Rosa Parks was Black and that is why she was expected to give up her seat on the bus. What DeSantis has done is turned our history into a lie. Not a little white lie but a big White Supremacy lie. Race is part of our history not only in the nation but also a big part of Florida History. In our entire nation our educational systems are failing and Florida in not different. There are a lot of things that have contributed to that but I didn’t see a single one, from the Republicans, with a plan on how to solve it. I of course think the decline of our families have a huge part to play but that will be for another blog.
We do hear quite often on how people are tired of Party Politics and I am one of them. What I am tired of is listening to politicians make it sound like they are the only solution when I know that once they get into office the entire party just falls in behind. You think that you are voting for an individual but what you really are voting for is a political party. I am just plain tired of being lied to so I don’t put too much stock in these dog and pony shows. The big thing is what that party stands for and who do they work for. Do they work for the people or do that work for the corporations. Do they work for the people or do they work for the 1 percent. I am smart enough to know that healthcare does not lead to communism. I know that education will not teach children to hate their own race. I know that when someone is yelling freedom while suppressing women’s rights that person does not really believe and freedom and I wonder what rights will they come after next. I know that guns are a bigger tool for the oppressor. If gerrymandering and voter suppression is how you expect to win, do not expect my vote. If you favor suppressing women’s rights, do not expect my vote. If your goal is to make it harder for some people to vote and easier for others, do not expect my vote. After reading this I am pretty sure you know how I am going to vote.
Right On! Beautifully said!
