We have a Crisis in America. If fact the entire world may be in crisis. Everyone has heard things like the “Oil Crisis”, the “Opium Crisis”, the Healthcare Crisis, the “Climate Crisis” and the “Border Crisis” just to name a few of the Crises in the world. We have a Crisis that is much bigger a problem than all of the other Crises combined. What we have is truly one huge “Moral Crisis”. That is right. In fact if we could solve the “Moral Crisis” maybe all the other Crises would go away.

First we need to decide what “immoral” means. I think of it as something that we do that harms the people around us and groups of people we don’t care about. When you look at it that way then the “Climate Crisis” is as much about morals as it is about economics. We keep pumping all this stuff into the air that is literally killing people. We have air quality alerts telling people that have asthma or in reality any pulmonary disease to stay indoors because the air they are breathing could kill them. We keep pumping stuff into the air they call greenhouse gases that are raising the temperature all over the planet which in turn is changing weather patterns. Our oceans are rising from the melting of the glaciers putting our coasts at risk from those rising water. The warming of our waters are feeding stronger and stronger ocean storms like Typhoons and Hurricanes. On land we don’t have a tornado season anymore because now tornados are year round.  It has been known the effects these “Fossil Fuels” we are burning are having on our health and on our planet but we have let people choose profits over health. We have let people choose profits over our safety. We have let our politicians be bribed by those very fossil fuel companies that are putting their profits over the lives and safety of the people. When you put money before the welfare of the people and our place on this planet I really think that it is a moral issue caused by greed.

Now let’s look at the Healthcare Crisis we have in this country. It is a crisis that many countries no longer have. Why? Because they have Socialized Medicine. I will start out by saying that any business that profits from the suffering of people is an immoral business. We have multiple businesses that are profiting from people suffering. We have the pharmaceutical companies that rake in huge profits for the drugs that we need. Just look at the price of EpiPens, they rose here in the United States by 600% from 2007 to 2016. That hits a little close to home for people that have allergic reactions to things like bee stings. We have had the same situation with Insulin where the price in the last decade rose 300% for the very same product. This last year the government put a price cap on this life saving drug whose formula was developed over a 100 years ago so the development of insulin had paid for itself a long time ago. Pharmaceutical companies were just ripping off the people with the greatest need. We have insurance companies denying coverage or under paying for coverage which are causing people to die. Healthcare for profit is profiting from people’s suffering. I am not saying that the healthcare professions should not be fairly compensated and in some cases well compensated. What I am saying “for-profit” medical care puts the dollar before the patient and that is to me is immoral.

We have a situation at “the Border” the Republicans and the Press like to call the “Border Crisis”. It was the Governor of Texas Governor Abbott that stated the only thing stopping Texas from shooting Immigrants is the headache of potential murder charges. I would think that it would be immoral to be shooting people that are seeking asylum so they can have a better life. The Governor must think that there is nothing immoral about shooting another human being. These people are just trying to escape the violence that we have helped to create because of our thirst for drugs and because of our desire to supply guns to insurgents, in the past, for political and economic gain. That was what the Iran Contra affair was, supply guns to Central America and sometimes with the help of the Drug Cartels. We help make a mess and then just walk away and wash our hands of the whole situation but the people left behind just suffer. When they try to reach for a better life we have a Governor that wishes that his citizens could just shoot him. I don’t think we don’t have a Border Crisis in Texas; we have a Moral Crisis in Texas. I don’t know what religion they have down there but it sure doesn’t sound like it is one that follows the teachings of Jesus.

In Mississippi Tate Reeves, the Governor has had Mississippi dropped out of the Federal Program that provides low income children food during the summer while schools were not in session. His reasoning is that he doesn’t want to turn Mississippi into a “welfare state”. In reality what his is saying that it is ok if minority children and under privilege children go hungry. Here is a man that would have not wanted Jesus to have those fish and loaves of bread in which Jesus fed all those people because he would not want them to become dependent on Jesus’s help. The man is sick and the people that voted for him are just as sick. He wants children to suffer. There is all kinds of things that he could do to help children like raising the minimum wage so their parents could earn a better living. What he does is just makes their poverty worse and then acts like he is doing them a favor. Poverty is a byproduct of our capitalist system when it is purely based on greed and power. Women’s rights is about control not morality. Hungry children is about morals which the Governor of Mississippi has none.

Have we always been this immoral or is this something new. In 2016 our country elected a three times married Man that had children by three different women and cheated on all of them. He mocked the handicapped and mocked women because of their appearance. He is a serial womanizer with many sexual assault complaints against him. He then tried to overthrow our Democracy and he is still trying to overthrow our Democracy. He has promoted racial hatred and division. He has enabled bigotry to be the norm not the exception. We actually have so called Christians saying that he is sent by god. Maybe our morality problem is not with Trump as much as it is with the people that want Trump to have that power. I can’t say that Trump has turned his back on the teachings of Jesus because he has never known the teachings of Jesus. He has no idea what is in the Gospel. Many of the people that do vote for Trump do know the teachings of Jesus and voted for him anyway. Those are the ones that have turned their backs on their own religion and their own truths because it was easier to follow Trump and the Republican Party because of their greed and hate. Yes, the biggest Crisis in America is our Moral Crisis or better put our lack of Morals, Crisis.

  1. You are correct. Unfortunately, the church has allowed the greed to permeate its ranks as well. Hence, the support of Trump and DeSantis despite their offensive policies for the poor. Our entire nation’s moral compass has been broken by greed. Let’s point to the example of the Iowa Church Pastor receiving $95,000 for his support of DeSantis. The pastor did not support him for his policies. He did it for the money and proudly declared it to his parishioners who promptly voted for Trump.

This is my continued search on whether Trump has the Character to be President. A person I know stated “His character matters bc it is in the character I believe he has the leadership, knowledge, wisdom, experience, compassion, integrity that will lead us on the path towards a more safe, secure, healthy, prosperous, free world than the direction we are headed.” My last blog looked at his character as integrity from a legal standpoint before he even was elected President. From a legal standpoint there is no way I would have thought he had the integrity to be President.   It is a new game but it is still being played just like the old one. Biden has chosen not to run for a 2 nd term and it looks like Kamala Harris will get the Democratic nomination. This drastically changes what the election will look like. Instead of two old white guys facing one another we will have a woman that is 19 years younger than the Republican nominee Donald Trump. Donald Trump went from saying Biden was too old and senile even though he was only three years younger than Biden to the old guy that appears to be too old and senile. Since Biden’s debate performance he had been under a considerable amount of pressure to drop out of the race. I have admitted in a past post when Biden came on stage he looked frail and in the beginning of the debate Trump’s tactics really confused Biden.
