There has been a collapse of the Government in Haiti. Haiti is a lawless country, it would be an upgrade to call it a 3rd world country. The country has been a disaster just about forever. I don’t have any solutions to the problems of Haiti and in all honesty I don’t think it is our problem to solve. What I find interesting, because people are trying to escape the island nation some by boat to the coast of Florida, our Governor has already stated he is going to send any Haitian Refugees to Martha’s Vineyard. The last asylum seekers he sent to Martha’s Vineyard he had to first import them from Texas. Now it was reported four days ago there has not been a spike in Haitian refugees in Florida but our Governor is already preparing to ship them out of the State. So far, any Haitian refugee boats that have been stopped by the Coast Guard the people are being returned to Haiti. I don’t think that they are being welcomed with open arms anywhere but DeSantis has to play politics anyway. Biden and the Democrats have not shied away from Immigration reform and they have worked with the Republicans in the Senate to come up with a bill that met both sides approval. The bi - partisan agreement worked out in the Senate from what I have read did not meet Trump’s approval. Trump ordered the Republicans in the House of Representatives to kill it so Trump could campaign on the issue that Biden has not done anything on Immigration reform. I have said this before but I will say it again. It is Congress’s job to make and pass that law. It is Congress’s job to solve the immigration crisis. The Senate did their job and sent a bill to the House. The House has refused to do their job at the urging from Donald Trump is what I read. They will not even bring it to the floor for debate. This is not Biden’s fault. This is Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s fault.
Easter is right around the corner and Immigration is a very proper thing to talk about. According to the Book of Matthew (Matthew 2: 13-23) an angel appeared in a dream that Joseph had telling him “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child , to destroy him” Joseph took Jesus and Mary to Egypt and remained for about two years until the death of Herod. Jesus and his family were asylum seekers. Jesus was a man that welcomed all and there are many instances in the Bible that talk about that. There are 13 Bible verses about Asylum in the Bible such as Numbers 35:6. According to Samuel 27: 1-12 even David had to seek asylum from Saul by living with the Philistines. In John 4: 1-42 Jesus teaches to interact with people that are different than you. As I researched this more and more I noticed a common theme is inclusion not separation. In America they seem to believe in separation and not inclusion.
As I have stated before, I live in Florida where we have a Church almost around every corner. For a State that has so many churches I believe that there are very few Christians. Florida will go all out by celebrating the death of a man that they say sacrificed every thing for them. They will celebrate the death of a man that died on the cross so supposedly they could live. It made me think about our immigration problem and what do we sacrifice? I looked at the lessons I learned in the Lutheran Church and I ask myself what would Jesus do? DeSantis says that any asylum seekers from Haiti would be put on a plane to be transported to Massachusetts. Would Jesus be flying asylum seekers to Massachusetts just to dump them on a blue state to make a political statement? Would Jesus be banning homeless people from sleeping in public places or would he be sleeping with them? Remember Jesus was homeless as he preached to the masses. I don’t believe he would fly asylum seekers or would be banning people from our public lands. If you really believed in his words and in the life that he lived you would have to agree with me. Jesus was a nationalist of nothing. He was not part of any government nor was he part of any religion. Christianity was created after his death and it was based, in the beginning, on his teachings but it doesn’t appear that way now. . He didn’t live his life by any book in the Old Testament. He lived his life as an example of how he wanted everyone to live theirs. I may not believe in the Church anymore but I still believe that Jesus had a powerful message that is still relevant today.
If you wonder why people turn their backs on the Church like I have, all some of you have to do is look in the mirror. You can’t talk about a man that wanted to lift man up while you are tearing people down. You can’t talk about a man that would have welcoming everyone by not including those that don’t look like you are act like you. Jesus I don’t think wanted us to believe in some church. I think he wanted us to believe in each other, to help each other. He didn’t tell us what to believe, he told is how to live our lives. I have always wondered if there was really a heaven, I would go there would I see a man like Gandhi? I would hope so because I like to believe it is the measure on how we live our life as being the most important thing.
I couldn't agree more with your sentiments. I call myself a Christian, but not of any Christian sect, but as a Christian to the teachings of Jesus. I sorry to say that I see to much corruption of those teachings in churches and won't be a hypocrite by attending one.
ReplyDeleteAs to men like DeSantis, I have nothing nice to say. I spent part of my first 18 years growing up in Florida and didn't like it (primarily because I hated the heat and no real "seasons". Today, I could never live there because of the state political scene.
Thank you. I have always thought that Jesus would be horrified at what has been done "in his name"...the Church is abysmal, oppressive, repressive and one of the most brilliant grifts through the ages....Amen Brother!
