Is our Democracy under attack? I would have to say “yes”. Are our Freedoms under attack? I would say, “that would depend how rich you are”. Are poor people voting their Freedoms away? I would have to say “yes”. I remember George W. Bush claiming that they hate us for our Freedom. They of course meaning the terrorists which made people think that our freedoms were under attack by terrorism. It was a great line but in all honesty I could never understand what freedoms of mine, were the terrorist trying to take away. Don’t think that I am trying to condone terrorism because I am not. I saw the towers collapse and I was so angry that if I had the power I would have turned their desert to glass. Their complaint was with the collusion of the American government and the American business interests with the governments in the Middle East. Many innocent Americans died that day because of our growing influence and what they viewed as American corruption in the Middle East. What I saw after 9/11 was the American People were very willing to give up some freedoms in exchange for security. When some politician cries Freedom during a campaign speech today I have no idea what freedoms they are talking about.

I feel that our Democracy is under attack and the Freedoms that our Founding Fathers fought for are going away right with them. What was the freedom that our Forefathers fought for? In my opinion it was the Freedom of Choice. They wanted to be able to choose who represented them in the government, who they chose to represent them was their voice. They didn’t want a government without rules or laws. They wanted a government that worked for the people and not one where that people worked for the government. They didn’t oppose paying taxes what they were opposed to was the fact they didn’t have a voice on how they were going to be taxed. They called it “taxation without representation”. Today representation is a big deal. Some states draw Congressional districts to ensure that the minority will win. Taxation without Representation is still a thing. I once said that choice is not just an abortion issue. Just think of what J D Vance is saying like a single women’s vote should count less. I am appalled with what Vance has said about abortion, rape, divorce and marriage. I wonder why should a woman not have the same rights as a man? Why should women have to stay in an abusive relationship? Why should women have to stay at home and be baby factories? It was women that didn’t stay at home during WWII that made it easier for us to win the war. Women are not property that can be used and then discarded when men are through with them.

Trump and Vance both say they want to drain the swamp that is Washington. This may sound good but if you really think about it Trump is part of that swamp. Every billionaire that thinks their money makes them more important than everyone else is the reason Washington is corrupt in the first place. For every corrupt politician there is probably an equally corrupt billionaire that owns that and other politicians. In fact you can even look at our Supreme Court and see that Supreme Court Justices are for sale too. Are any of these problems new? I would have to say that the answer is both yes and no. There have been politicians with their hands out probably from the very beginning. It used to be illegal to bribe a politician but bribery now appears to be an accepted practice now in Washington. They are called campaign donations or in the case of Clarence Thomas they are called gifts. Nobody and I repeat nobody gives a politician money and not expect something in return. Some of us give because we want a better country for our children with improved healthcare. Some of us give because we want clean water. Some of us give because we know that Climate Change is killing our place on the planet. Some of us give because we want a better world for our grandchildren.

Why do you think a billionaire gives to a candidate? Do you think that a billionaire that was born in Germany, grew up in South Africa, and is an American citizen living in New Zealand gives a damn about our grandchildren? If he did he would be fighting for a better environment, better schools, better healthcare and all the other issues that affect the future of our children. I think in many cases that billionaire only cares about the power his money gives him so he can obtain more money and more power. I don’t think that some billionaires are happy working within a Democratic System. I wouldn’t be surprised that some find that a Democratic system just interferes with their freedom that they think that their money gives them.

I keep hearing that Biden is a Dictator or that Biden in a Communist. I keep hearing that the Democratic Party is the enemy of the people. I hear insult after insult that has no reasoning or facts to back them up. I was just told that Kamala Harris has been appointed all her life even though she has won multiple elections from the DA of San Francisco, the Attorney General of California, the US Senate and the VP of the United States. All of those were elections she won and were not appointments. I have heard it said that she slept her way to the top which again is an insult that isn’t true. She was elected. Why are we hearing these lies? Could it be because we have billionaires, both foreign and domestic, control the media and the systems where the people get their information? That has been done in the past and death has followed. Our Founding Fathers knew the importance of the truth being to the people by the media.

Too many of us look at the rich and see great people. Me, I look at the rich and know that they have gotten there by standing on the backs of those that have helped make them rich that have not fairly been compensated. That is right. Too many people get rich off of other people’s labors. When you think that you are better than the people that helped get you there is when you begin to corrupt that system. I know that at times I think that I sound like a raving liberal but I am not. I just want people to be fairly compensated for their labors. I just want to have people treated fairly and I don’t see that happening when the Republicans are bowing down to the billionaires. Trump insults any Republican or Democrat that opposes him. Trump threatens with retribution any Republican or Democrat that opposes him. Trump behind closed doors tells billionaires that he will make them richer. That is how the swamp grows and not how you get rid of it. That is not a man that wants to protect the vision of our Forefathers and our Constitution. That is not a man that cares about the Rights and Freedoms of any of us, Republican or Democrat.  That is a man that wants a ruling class and a serf class and the hell with the voice of the people.

Garbage post Dave, some good points about billionaires corrupting politicians, but you point the finger at Trump, and completely ignore Joe Biden corrupt influence pedaling and that Nancy Pelosi is worth $200 million on a Senator’s salary. The problems we face are caused by the entrenched career political class in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans. Term limits, please. The Democrats are protecting the bureaucracy. Trump is hardly the answer but he is a move in the right direction.

      #3 Our problems are far less about an entrenched career political class in DC than it is about (1) money in politics; (2) extensive lobbying industry. Refer to: Citizens United, Sen Whitehouse's "The Scheme" video series on YouTube; people who have written about income inequality.
      #4 term limits on Congress only allow neophytes to be easily manipulated by lobbyists; govt is complex, lawmakers do better w/experience, just like brain surgeons

    2. Ahhh the Joe Biden influence pedaling scam. Even though Trump and his cronies have scoured the globe and found no actual evidence worthy of putting in front of a grand jury. Even with Trump appointed special counsels. I swear Trump supporters believe anything they are told.

  2. Am reading "The Contrarian" -- seems Thiel actually spent more time growing up in the US.
    Thiel has had, continues to have, a frightening degree of influence in our culture.
    He does not believe in democracy. Seems to blame women, at least in part. I'm not sure how that will play out in the daughter he and his husband have.
    According to the book, he more or less tricked NZ giving him a citizenship, but has hardly been back.
    If I could inject the contents of the book into every US voter's brain, I would. He's a horrifying, amoral creature.
    And yeah, def doesn't believe in democracy -- a whole philosophy sprung out of his 2009 essay on CATO Unbound called "The Dark Enlightenment." Non-egalitarian.

This is my continued search on whether Trump has the Character to be President.
